Leah Rockwell, LPC Consulting

Outside of her clinical work with adults, Leah offers consulting services for schools and teachers, teaching educators how to recognize, regulate, and react to students in mental distress so that they can do so with confidence and calm without compromising their own well-being.

Drawing upon her years of experience in independent schools and her training as a school counselor, Leah works with educators (global program directors, coaches, and residential life professionals) on creating programming that is trauma-informed. Taking a collaborative approach, she equips teachers with tools to become competent and confident in their role as “first” first responders to student mental health issues while safeguarding their own mental health and resilience.

Leah Rockwell, LPC, consulting with independent schools

While your school counselor is there to focus on the emotional well-being of students, my focus is on YOU, the teacher.

Student mental health has never been more challenged; but who’s supporting teacher well-being? That’s where I come in.

I teach teachers how to recognize, regulate, and react to students in emotional distress so that they can do so with confidence and calm without sacrificing their OWN well-being in the process.

Utilizing my experience in independent schools and my training as a licensed professional counselor and somatic practitioner, I will give you concrete tools that you can use to:

  • Recognize your own strengths and patterns when under stress

  • Build your resilience so that you can confidently set and hold personal and professional boundaries

  • De-escalate a situation by bringing down the “emotional temperature” of a student in distress

  • Re-engage a student with the here and now

  • Create safety and stabilization until you can get a student to a higher level of care

  • Stabilize a student and get comfortable “holding” them, as needed

  • Design programming for students that is “trauma-informed” and provides both the structure and freedom for ALL parties to have the best chance at a successful experience

Are you a school administrator with an eye on teacher well-being?

Perhaps you’ve considered investing in teacher mental health for your faculty members. Here are a few nudges as to why this is good for teachers and students, alike.

trainings for teachers

Trainings for overnight program leaders

Traveling domestically or abroad, taking students off campus can be daunting. I offer consulting in best practices for designing trauma-informed approaches to experiential programming and advice on how you can help if things go sideways.

Trainings for residential life personnel

Whether you’re a dorm parent, a student advisor, a dorm head or a dorm dean, the likelihood of encountering a student in mental distress is high. Trainings in stabilization and grounding can help.

Trainings for teachers

Teachers are de-factor “first first responders,” often fielding student mental health issues they’re unprepared to handle. I give teachers skills to respond effectively and with compassion.
